FILM ‘ROOTED IN PEACE’ FOR MARTHA’S VINEYARD PREMIERE

SANTA MONICA, CA, June 22, 2015 – Sundance alumni filmmaker, Greg Reitman, will present his latest feature documentary film ‘ROOTED in PEACE’ at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society on July 15, 2015 followed by Q&A with the film director and Lama Surya Das one of the foremost Western Buddhist meditation teachers and scholars. The Dalia Lama affectionately calls him “the American Lama.”

“Its an amazing journey to look back five years ago when we first started filming in Massachusetts in Boston, The Berkshires and Amherst,” says filmmaker Greg Reitman. “We were delighted to be invited to screen the film at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society in preparation to its theatrical release.

Changing the world starts with you and me. If we are to transform the world we must first begin by transforming ourselves, says filmmaker Greg Reitman. Trees ask us to examine how we live in the natural world, with one another, and intra-personally. If we value ourselves, we value trees. And conversely, if we treat our environment right, we treat ourselves right. We are each a microcosm, and if each of our individual worlds is in balance then the whole planet is in balance. Trees can be considered the symbol, the force that puts us in balance. Change Begins Within: The World Is As You Are is the ultimate quest the filmmaker seeks to endow.

Employing both memoir and interviews with such luminaries and activists as Deepak Chopra, music legends Donovan, Mike Love, and Pete Seeger, film director David Lynch, Nobel Peace Laureate Mairead Maguire, media mogul Ted Turner, Archbishop Desmond Tutu, green architect William McDonough, neuroscientist Dan Siegel and many others, Reitman heeds former guru Maharishi Mahesh Yogi’s words: “If the forest is to be green, every tree must be green, if there’s going to be Peace on earth than everybody must need to feel that quality of Peace.” Reitman poses the basic question: How do we want to live? And asks viewers to do the same.

The feature documentary was launched at the prestigious Sedona International Film Festival, and is slated to be released theatrically on September 17th via Specticast to over 1000 screens worldwide to coincide with the United Nations Int’l Day of Peace.

International Day Of Peace

Each year the International Day of Peace is observed around the world on 21 September. The General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to strengthening the ideals of peace, both within and among all nations and peoples. The theme of this year’s commemoration is “Partnerships for Peace – Dignity for All” which aims to highlight the importance of all segments of society to work together to strive for peace. The work of the United Nations would not be possible without the initial partnerships that were active in its creation and the thousands of partnerships each year between governments, civil society, the private sector, faith-based groups and other non-governmental organizations that are needed to support the Organization in achieving its future goals.
